Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty
Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty was born in Bengal to Ajit Chakrabarty in a Hindu Brahmin family. They moved to India from their homeland, Bangladesh, during the partition. His younger brother, Sanjay Chakrabarty is a noted composer and music therapist. His daughter, Kaushiki Chakrabarty is also a talented Hindustani classical vocalist. Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty showed extraordinary promise in vocal music and at the tender age of three, began taking lessons from his father Ajit Chakrabarty.

Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty is the foremost exponent of the Patiala Gharana of vocal music and is the disciple of Ustad Munawar Ali Khan.

Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty is considered to be one of the finest vocalists currently performing in India today. He is a veritable trendsetter, demonstrating knowledge of diverse forms of classical, light-classical and even modern vocal music. His imagination and sensitivity to lyrics, coupled with his uncanny sense of rhythm, have made him the authentic exponent and leading representative of the famous Patiala gaikee. He was conferred with the “Sangeet Natak Akademi” award in the year 2000.
