Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Pratisthan organizes a two-day festival every year titled – VASANT UTSAV, in Pune, in the memory of Late Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande by inviting respected artists to perform at this event. In the past, artists such as Pt. Kumar Gandharva, Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Jeetendra Abhisheki, Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Malini Rajurkar, Sanjeev Abhyankar, Vijay Ghate, Mukul Shivputra and Rakesh Chaurasia have performed at the festival. This year is the 25th Death Anniversary of Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande. To commemorate this occasion, the Pratisthan has planned to organize a three-day music festival with WORLDMUSIC as its theme. Vasantrao appreciated all genres of music. For him, it transcended all boundaries and touched every person's heart in some way or the other. Keeping this in mind, WORLDMUSIC was selected as the theme. The objective of this festival is get different forms of music under the same roof and to share a common platform. The festival will therefore see programs ranging from pure Indian Classical music, Ghazals and Sufi to a rich blend of mesmerizing fusion sequences. Nana Patekar, a name that needs no introduction, will be hosting the entire festival. Nitin Desai, Bollywood’s most sought after set designer, who has designed sets for ‘Devdas’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Josh’, ‘Lagan’ will be specially designing the stage for this event. The festival promises its discerning, music loving audience a treat of their lifetime. Pune will stand witness to a show whose grandeur will leave everyone spellbound and in which performances by consummate artists, will leave the audience captivated and craving for more.
